Tales from the Borderlands may not be as successful as the main Borderlands games, but it is a cult classic for a reason. With the original game relaunched on digital storefronts just last year, perhaps it was a sign of things to come. With a Borderlands 3 writer wanting to work on Tales from the Borderlands 2, it seems like there is interest in a potential follow-up. Another Borderlands 3 prequel would still be able to provide some answers regarding Fiona’s fate, and no matter when it is set, it would undoubtedly be an entertaining affair. As such, a Tales from the Borderlands sequel could also be set shortly after the original Season, exploring Rhys’s partnership with Zer0 and the character’s journey to rebuild Atlas. With the upcoming Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands set shortly after Borderlands 2, Gearbox is clearly willing to play around with the series’ timeline a bit. It would also make it easier for Gearbox to bring them back in Borderlands 4, as they would be much less obscure. Even if both pairs are happy to be away from the action, seeing them once again would be exciting for fans. The same could happen with Athena and Springs, as the couple goes unmentioned in Borderlands 3.

Not only could Fiona be set up as a playable Vault Hunter, but players could get an update on how Gortys and Loader Bot’s relationship is working out. Tales from the Borderlands 2 could provide the answers to his search, with fans finally learning where Fiona has gone.Īside from providing answers on the whereabouts of Fiona, Tales from the Borderlands 2 could set up some plot points for Borderlands 4. A vague audio log sees Rhys talking to Zer0 about an attempt to track down an unnamed woman, which could be either Fiona or Sasha. While Rhys still has a picture of Sasha on his desk, indicating the feelings he has for Fiona’s sister, it is unclear where exactly Fiona has gone. This is particularly interesting because Fiona is nowhere to be seen in Borderlands 3. Rhys never touches on where he went, maintaining the mystery from the Telltale game’s vague ending. Though Rhys appears in Borderlands 3 and has a fairly prominent role as Atlas CEO, players do not learn what happened after he touched the chest in The Vault of the Traveler. The first and most important thing Tales from the Borderlands 2 could do is provide answers regarding the original game’s cliffhanger. A sequel could bring some characters back to the forefront of the story prior to Borderlands 4’s inevitable release, allowing them to have a prominent role in the next mainline game. With the hype for The Wolf Among Us 2 showing that there is still interest in Telltale’s unique brand of video games, and the original Tales from the Borderlands game ending on a cliffhanger, a follow-up makes perfect sense.

Created by Telltale, the game featured the developer’s unique choice-based approach and reliance on QTEs, ensuring it was quite different from the looter shooter style Borderlands is known for. However, it is not the only Borderlandsspin-off to be released over the years, as Tales from the Borderlands dropped back in 2014. The Borderlands franchise is continuing to expand with the upcoming Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a spin-off that builds off the concept of Assault on Dragon Keep.
